What is UA (University of Alabama) like During Summer Break?
After the fall and spring academic semesters, studentsin on campus and off-campus housing usually go back to their hometowns for the break to be with family, to work, travel or pursue other goals. Since most students choose to go back home, it might seem like there is nothing to do in town. Here are some places and activities that students can do during the summer break like for students still in Tuscaloosa.
Student Life During the Summer Season
Over the last two years, the University of Alabama has doubled its student population. During the fall semester, new students and returning students come back and flood the streets of Tuscaloosa. There are campus events, concerts and other activities to get students ready for the year. Many people look forward to football season when many people from all over the nation come to create memories at Bryant Denny Stadium, extended hours at bars and restaurants.
During this time, college students everywhere you go, and Tuscaloosa is booming! Most people assume that when the fall and spring semester is over, the vibes are not the same. However, there are many students who still stay in Tuscaloosa for several reasons. Most students stay due to summer classes, work or because they have made Tuscaloosa their permanent home as they transition into their adulthood and independence.
The Weather
It is true what they say about summer season in southern states: it can be extremely hot! Tuscaloosa experiences hot temperatures that can typically range from the mid-80s, 90s and low 100s. The humidity levels can be remarkably high, which can make the weather feel even hotter. Luckily, Tuscaloosa is known for its lake and outdoor activities for UA students and the local community.
Outdoor Activities
On campus students love to be on The Quad whether it is to study for summer classes, hang out with friends or just to soak up the sun. The Tuscaloosa Riverwalk is a beautiful spot along the Black Warrior River that offers scenic views of nature, walking and biking trails, and access to water sports like kayaking and paddle boarding. If you have not explored the outdoor parks in Tuscaloosa add it to your buck list! Some of the parks offer hiking trails, fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities.
Attend a concert or event at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater: The amphitheater hosts a variety of concerts and events throughout the summer months, and it is a wonderful place to enjoy live music and entertainment under the stars.
Visit the Tuscaloosa River Market: Located right on the Black Warrior River, Tuscaloosa River Market is a wonderful place to stock up on fresh produce, artisanal foods, and handmade crafts from local vendors.
Nightlife During the Summer Season
Bama students love to go out at night to restaurants and bars to socialize and hang out with friends all throughout the week. During the summer season, some of the restaurants and bars that students love to go to close earlier. On The Strip, places like Rounders and Twelve25 close around 10pm, but during the Fall and Spring semester, they extend their hours to 2am. Even though some of the popular spots might change their hours, there are plenty of spots for students to still go out and have fun.
The atmosphere in Tuscaloosa is different when most of the students leave for the summer. For students and residents who live here, there are plenty of events and activities to choose from to enjoy the warm weather and have an exciting summer break.
